Without careful planning, the Taxman can end up taking a large slice of anyone's estate. There are a number of alternative ways in which your children's or other heirs' inheritance can be protected, but it is often difficult to know which one is best.
- Making a Will is an important first step in the process
- Altering the method of joint ownership of a property is another step to consider, but you need to be aware of the legal implications in the event of your death
- Sometimes the setting up of a trust either in your Will or during your lifetime can provide a solution
- Advice on life insurance and investments may be necessary and we can refer you to Origen Financial Services or a stockbroker for any advice or services which we ourselves are not authorised to provide under Law Society or FSA rules
We have many years of experience dealing with these issues and can offer you the reassurance that yours and your family’s best interests always come first.
Our private client department situated in its separate office at James House, 1A Crescent Road, Caterham (ground floor access and interview room) deals with Inheritance Tax planning and Wealth Management, as well as other areas of personal taxation including Income Tax and Capital Gains. We also offer advice in respect of the preparation of Wills, Administration of Estates, advice to the elderly including the making of powers of attorney and applications to the Court of Protection.
For clients needing financial or investment advice, we are able to refer you to Origen Financial Services a firm of independent financial advisers part of the international Aegon Group.
The department is headed by our partner John Ronald, a solicitor with over 37 years of practice in Caterham, ably supported by solicitor partner Isabel Brown, who holds a financial planning certificate, and members of the Institute of Legal Executives, Karen Ball and Annette Simon. Two extremely experienced legal secretaries, Ann Reader and Dora Burton make up the remainder of the team. Currently we are able to call on advice from Anthony Charlier, the former senior partner of the firm and now a consultant. He has been in practice in Caterham since 1963.
The team is able to offer experienced and efficient service in its field and we make a point of providing it in a friendly and sympathetic manner. We believe ourselves now to be one of the largest private client departments in the immediate local area (Caterham, Godstone, Oxted and Coulsdon) and more expansion is planned.
